Our Story
In the early 1970s, 10-15 people began meeting in individual Dallas homes to discuss Italian culture and history and celebrate the Italian Immigrant experience. By the mid-70s the group had nearly 70 participants and decided it was time to create a more formal organization. Thus, in 1977, the Italian Club of Dallas was born; and was incorporated as a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization in August of that year. The Club celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2007 in our Clubhouse in Addison, Texas, which opened in February of that year. We remained at that location for ten years, until March 2017.
Appreciation of Italian culture is an important component of the Club’s mission. From the early years when the Dallas Museum of Art hosted ICD Member Nights for “The Pompeiians and The Sassanians ~ the Last Dynasty of Persia” to present day lectures and tours, the Club entertains and educates both its Members and the general public on Italian music, history, and culture. Meanwhile, our Book Club explores a broad range of literary styles, from classical to contemporary, fiction to biography; but all with a focus on the Italian experience.
As part of our commitment to the community, Club Members represent the ICD as volunteers in charitable activities, such as our long-standing support of the annual Special Olympics Texas Bocce Tournament, and donate both their time and money to other worthy local charities.
Certainly, food remains a central component in any celebration of Italian culture, so it should be no surprise that Italian cuisine remains a priority at the ICD. Members and guests enjoy a quarterly Friday night Cena at various DFW restaurants. Special dinner events are also held most holidays. Event and venue information is available on our Italian Club of Dallas Facebook page, or subscribe to our ClubMail and receive a weekly update of what’s new. We look forward to having you join us at the Italian Club of Dallas, where c’e’ sempre posto al nostro tavolo per un amico (there’s always room at our table for a friend)!
